The Commission works to develop new projects as we keep
four important goals in mind:

· Enriching the quality of life for Town residents

· Contributing to individual personal development

· Making the community a more attractive place to live

· Strengthening neighborhood and community ties

As we work to achieve these goals we have accomplished the following
in Fiscal Year 2007/2008 :

1.  Continued to revise the Recreation Master Plan adopted by the Town Council May, 2007
2.  Supported the Youth Sports Initiative that the Recreation Department has advocated by establishing a sub-committee – “New Youth Sports Committee” - to develop a strategic plan to implement change in the culture
3.  Established a special Study Committee/Task Force – “South Windsor Walk & Wheel Ways” - to develop plans for future walking and biking trails in Town
4.  Completed phase II development of athletic fields for Soccer/Football/Lacrosse at Rye Street Park, financed through a state STEAP Grant
5.  Developed plans for a Concession/Storage/Restroom facility at Rye Street Park
6.  Completed plans and drawings to begin work/development/ of Phase I for Lawrence Rd Park
7.  Contributed towards the successful completion of  ‘Jacob’s View’ picnic shelter and memorial garden addition to My Friend’s Place playground at Nevers Park
8.  Partnered with South Windsor Police Services to complete construction of the town’s first off-leash dog park at Nevers Park with a November grand opening of the “South Windsor Bark Park”

The Commission does have additional projects we are working to complete. These include: development of a Skateboard Park; expansion of Walking/Biking Trails in Town parks and neighborhoods; additional parking area at Rye St. Park.

The Park and Recreation Commission is an appointed body of nine regular members and two alternates. The Commission advises the Town Council on the active and passive recreational needs for the Town. Regular meetings are held in the Sprenkel Room in Town Hall at 7:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month. We welcome your participation.
