The Health Department is responsible for many varied activities. Using the State Public Health Code and other statutes, regulations and guidelines, the Department performs these regulatory activities in a manner which promotes an understanding of environmental health issues and concerns.
Department activities include on site soil investigations, percolation testing, review of engineering plans for septic systems, well site inspections, review of water analyses, nursery school and day care inspections, and inspections of food service operations.
Additional activities include investigation of ground water contamination affecting drinking water wells and water quality issues, environmental concerns such as participation in the state wide West Nile Virus monitoring program and associated mosquito program, and issues dealing with elevated blood lead levels in children.
Also included would be general nuisance issues such as trash & rubbish complaints, failed septic systems, food service concerns, rodent, and odor complaints.
